Special Olympics Pennsylvania Area P provides a year-round training and competitive sports program for Susquehanna, Wayne, Pike, Lackawanna, and Wyoming County children and adults with intellectual disabilities and/or closely related developmental disabilities. The program provides training and competitions in over 11 sports and leadership programs across ~15 facilities throughout the 5 counties.

Eligible athletes are all children and adults, at least eight years old, with intellectual disabilities, a cognitive delay, or a closely related developmental disability. Eligible athletes have functional limitations in both general learning and in adaptive skills. Children under the age of 8 years old may participate in Young Athletes Programs (YAP) designed specifically to meet the needs of preschool age and early elementary age children with intellectual disabilities and focuses on an introduction to sports rather than on training and competition in specific sports.

Our program is managed entirely by volunteers. All funding is raised through special events and charitable donations.

Special Olympics Area P is part of Special Olympics Pennsylvania and is recognized as a tax-exempt organization under U.S. Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). EIN: 23-207854
